Welcome to our new website! This is an exciting time in our country for healthcare. Despite the many ups and downs of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), one thing is certain, people are talking about healthcare. They are discussing what is broken (and what is not) and they are talking about how we can improve care delivery, outcomes, and asset allocation while reducing costs.
Now more than ever before, leaders are receptive to new ideas that address these issues in innovative ways and while the concept of congregational health ministry is as old as faith itself, the way in which Faith Community Nurses (FCN’s) deliver this care provides a fresh solution to our medical conundrum. Our power to affect change through education, referral, support, and partnership as well as our ability to work within our faith tradition to restore mind, body, and spirit wholeness perfectly poises us to accomplish many of the objectives of the ACA.
So how do we move forward? Our new look is only the beginning. In 2014, our goal is to connect and serve. To begin, we want to connect with you and we want to help you to connect with others. In order to achieve this we are updating our database so that we may improve the way we communicate and gain a better understanding of your needs and concerns. Next, we have recruited ICPN Advocates throughout the state who have agreed to represent, unify, and mentor those interested in starting or sustaining their health ministry. These advocates will disseminate updates and represent those in their region as we strive for greater unity.
Once we have connected, we want to begin serving. As an organization, we want to serve as the launchpad for new ideas and best practices, and provide a forum for discussion, concerns, and education. We also want to assist Faith Community Nurses seeking specialty board certification through the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) once the portfolio outline is released later this summer.
As you can tell, ICPN is moving forward and I am thrilled to be a part of the organization. Our success as a nursing specialty and our ability to champion health ministries throughout the state depends on our partnership with you. The work you do is important and the people you serve benefit greatly from your care and expertise. My prayers are with you as you endeavor to change lives by promoting health and wellness. Please contact me with any questions or suggestions as we move into a new era for faith and health.
